In cooperation with Prof. Dr. Christian Decker and other instructors, ZEPRA, the continuous education provider of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), provides the possibility to acquire or refresh basic formal and material knowledge and skills of literature-based academic research and writing. The successful completion of the module is documented by a certificate of completion.

The module is provided in English language applying a flexible modern online format, divided into 2 phases

I. Academic research (theoretical foundations)

Participants acquire a basic knowledge by working through asynchronous e-learning videos and submitting their solutions to assigned mini problems.

All e-learning tutorials are available free of charge on this website.

Optionally and additionally, participants may deepen their knowledge using a complementary textbook.

II. Academic writing (implementation in practice)

After having completed phase I, participants apply their theoretical knowledge in practice by writing a literature-based term paper on an individually obtained research topic.

Instructor’s supervision takes place online (Skype, Adobe Connect, Google Hangouts) at individually determined dates, optionally during the day or in the evening hours.

After having completed the term paper, participants create an academic poster graphically summarising the major research findings. The poster is presented and defended by the participant during an online session.

The complete module encompasses a workload of 6 ECTS-CP, which is indicated in the certificate of completion. Participants may choose between a graded or non-graded certificate.
